Assessment of the Compliance of Sports and Active Leisure Equipment with Safety Requirements
In light of the public safety challenges arising from the increasing number of various types of sports and active leisure facilities in Lithuania and the related accidents, the Technical Assessment of Facilities Division of TÜV NORD Lithuania offers compliance and risk assessment services for the following categories of facilities:
- Outdoor Fitness Equipment (LST EN 16630) – In recent years, a large number of public outdoor fitness facilities have been installed in Lithuania. The Lithuanian and European standard LST EN 16630 sets forth a number of safety requirements, such as impact-absorbing surfaces, appropriate user information, protection against limb entrapment, and other important criteria that ensure public safety. Periodic inspections of this equipment are also required.
- Rope courses (LST EN 15567) – Elevated obstacle courses designed to provide a certain level of protection against falls. The Lithuanian and European standard LST EN 15567 sets forth requirements for the design, installation, and use of these facilities. Trees must be assessed, personal protective equipment must be inspected regularly, and ongoing technical maintenance must be performed. Periodic inspections are required.
- Artificial climbing structures (LST EN 12572) – Structures intended for sport climbing, typically rock-climbing walls equipped with safety anchors. The Lithuanian and European standard LST EN 12572 specifies requirements for the proper design, installation, and testing of these structures.
- Trampoline centers (EN ISO 23659) – Trampoline parks consisting of several different types of trampolines and equipped with landing areas (foam pits or inflatable mats). This international standard sets forth all safety requirements necessary for the safe installation and use of trampoline parks. Periodic inspections are required.
- Water slides (LST EN 1069) – Water slides are installed in public swimming pools. The Lithuanian and European standard LST EN 1069 provides a detailed description of all safety requirements applicable to this type of equipment. The standard requires inspections to be conducted before the equipment is put into use.
During the conformity assessment, equipment is inspected for compliance with Lithuanian and European standards, and any identified deficiencies are subject to a risk assessment. A detailed conformity assessment report is provided to the client.
