Inspection of car LPG cylinders
Specific safety requirements apply to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) equipment installed in vehicles. Our experts inspect vehicle LPG cylinders and extend their service life.
SND Cylinder Expiration Date
The service life of an SND cylinder must be indicated on the manufacturer's plate affixed to the cylinder. If the manufacturer's plate indicates only the cylinder's date of manufacture, the next inspection of the cylinder must be performed no later than 10 (ten) years after its date of manufacture.
After inspecting an SND cylinder whose service life has expired and determining that the cylinder is in good working order, a special notation regarding the extension of the cylinder’s service life is made on the manufacturer’s plate (identification plate), and a document is issued by the authorized body that performed the inspection.
Inspection and Renewal of SND Cylinder Validity
In accordance with legal requirements, only an authorized facility inspection body may inspect SND cylinders and extend their service life (the Technical Safety Division of TÜV NORD Lithuania meets these requirements).
A list of authorized agencies that can inspect and extend the service life of SND cylinders in vehicles is availableon the website of the Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration.

Technical Requirements for SND Cylinders
LPG cylinders for motor vehicles must comply with the Technical Requirements for Liquefied Petroleum Gas Equipment and the Installation of Such Equipment in Motor Vehicles, approved by Order No. 2B-227 of June 24, 2003, issued by the Director of the State Road Transport Inspectorate under the Ministry of Transport and Communications “On the Approval of Technical Requirements for Liquefied Petroleum Gas Equipment and the Installation of Such Equipment in Motor Vehicles”:
- The service life of the cylinder must be indicated on the manufacturer's plate affixed to the cylinder. If the manufacturer's plate indicates only the cylinder's date of manufacture, it is assumed that the next inspection of the cylinder may be performed no later than ten years after its date of manufacture.
- Once the cylinder's service life, as specified by the manufacturer, has expired, the cylinder must be replaced with a new one or its service life must be extended.
- In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on the Supervision of Potentially Hazardous Facilities (Official Gazette, 1996, No. 46-1116; 2000, No. 89-2742), cylinders may be inspected and their service life extended by an authorized institution for the inspection of the technical condition of equipment (hereinafter referred to as the “authorized institution”).
- If a cylinder whose service life has expired is inspected and found to be in good working order, a special mark indicating the extension of the cylinder’s service life must be made on the manufacturer’s plate. The cylinder must be marked with the authorized agency’s mark, and the cylinder’s service life (year, month) must be stamped next to the mark.
