Occupational risk assessment

A Cornerstone of the Workplace Safety Process

Risk assessment is a fundamental element of occupational safety management, because knowing the hazards makes it possible to adequately protect employees from them and prevent accidents and occupational diseases.

There is often a misconception that risk assessment is a one-time process driven solely by legal requirements. By periodically identifying and assessing risk factors in the workplace, preventive measures are implemented in a timely manner to ensure safe and healthy working conditions.

IWe identify 7 key steps in risk assessment:

  1. Classification of work performed, equipment used, and processes.
  2. Identification of existing and potential risk factors and hazardous situations; collection of information. Preparation of a work plan.
  3. Assessment and modeling of risk factors and hazards. Quantitative, accredited measurements of physical factors (exposure relationships, determination of exposure duration). Assessment and documentation of the magnitude of existing risk.
  4. Identification of specific measures to eliminate or reduce existing risks (development of a plan for elimination, reduction, and prevention measures; appointment of responsible individuals).
  5. Implementation of planned actions (planned measures are being carried out, and employees are being briefed).
  6. Verification of the effectiveness of the measures implemented.
  7. Periodic review and update of the risk assessment (taking into account changes that have occurred within the company and new risks that have emerged).

The standard occupational risk assessment process typically consists of the first 5 steps.

If you wish, we can provide risk assessment services at any stage of your choice, but our clients most often opt for a comprehensive approach.

We can conduct an assessment of all risk factors present in the work environment or, if necessary, of just one or a few of them:

  • Measurements and assessment of physical factors such as lighting, microclimate, noise, vibration,  measurements and assessment
  • Chemical
  • Natural
  • Ergonomic
  • Psychosocial and other risk factors.
