As the number of electric vehicles in Lithuania grows, more and more attention is being paid to their safe operation and fire prevention. In light of these challenges, we offer a fire blanket designed to extinguish and contain fires in electric vehicles.
This solution helps effectively limit the spread of flames, reduce the effects of heat, and minimize the release of harmful smoke
Why is this decision necessary?
Fires in electric vehicles are characterized by unique combustion patterns due to the properties of lithium-ion batteries. Therefore, extinguishing such fires is difficult using conventional fire-fighting methods, such as water; consequently, using a fire blanket can prevent further damage from occurring before firefighters and rescue workers arrive.
Testing and Certification
Our fire-resistant fabric was tested in full-scale tests under the supervision of specialists from the Fire Research Center, an accredited certification body.
During the tests, a fire in an electric vehicle was simulated:
- A lithium-ion battery placed under the car had caught fire;
- During the 10-minute combustion period, temperatures ranging from 540 to 720 °C were reached;
- After covering the car with a fire blanket, the temperature dropped to 120 °C;
- restricted oxygen flow into the combustion zone and the spread of smoke.
These results confirmed the effectiveness of the fire-retardant fabric, and the certificate of conformity issued by the Fire Research Center attests to its quality and reliability.
Areas of Application
It is recommended to store the fire blanket:
- electric vehicles in underground and open-air parking lots and service centers;
- in areas with electric vehicle charging stations;
- when transporting or storing electric vehicles.
